How are leaks discovered
When you call a roofer to your home for a quote on a leaking or damaged roof, in most cases the leak is pretty visual inside the house, while outside, the cause is most often out of sight.
Experienced roofers will know that because a leak is presenting itself at point A, it does not mean the water is entering the roof directly above point A. Most often the water is getting in through some roof damage which (while it is always above point A) may be many meters away.
From its entrance point, it travels along the roofing felt, directly under the tiles, to the nearest point of exit that it can find.
The quotes from any roofer who cannot actually see the ingress point, are therefore pure guesswork. Albeit educated guesses in most cases, but generally just guesses just the same. I know, I’ve been in that situation many times.

Human Expertise
Using my 50 years of knowledge of repairing buildings I can interpret the video footage to help guide the roofer to the likely cause of the leak.
I will edit the drone footage, with on-screen notes showing roof faults and likely entrance points for water.
It will be published to the Build Doctor channel on YouTube. You are then sent a link to the footage.
You can share this link with as many roofers as you like to get as many quotes as you like. The roofers can focus in on the most likely cause of your leak, rather than guessing how it is getting in.
Your quotes will be more accurate, and usually less expensive, because the roofer knows where to look straight away.
The cost
A drone survey costs £375.
As soon as you are sent the link, the copyright of that video is yours. Only people with a link can see it.
I am quite often asked to do drone surveys of properties people are interested in buying. I will of course, but I must be shown proof that the current owner of that property is happy that the drone flight be carried out.
